TEXT: PSALM 103:1-5, 13-14

Today, EVANG. DAVID OFURUM teaches…

We’re all conversant with how special mummy’s love can be, but daddy’s love is just as unique and special. Mothers change their baby’s diapers, but how special it feels when a father does it. The Bible is replete with examples of God’s fatherly love towards His children. There should never be any moment when you have the tiniest iota of doubt regarding God’s love for you. Every manifestation of divine benevolence is sponsored by God’s eternal love. As long as you are God’s child, He does not love you because of the moral or spiritual correctness of your behaviour and actions but because of the eternal disposition of His divine nature – it is not in His nature to hate. That is not to say that He condones iniquity, rather it is His love that pardons iniquity and demands we live right in our own best interest.

Every good father takes delight in ensuring the welfare of his children. God the Father enjoys loading His children with benefits such as forgiveness of sins, healing of diseases, redemption from destruction, special kindness and mercy, satisfaction with good things, rejuvenation, etc. Just as a good father loves to bring home goodies for his children, sometimes without their requesting it, God loves to bring good things to us, sometimes even without us asking or deserving them.

Having recently become a father, I now see fatherly love from an experiencial perspective. Yet I reckon that while there are many good daddies around who show tender and compassionate love for their kids, no daddy can love you like the Big Daddy in Heaven.
