THE ALPHA LIFE 1

THE ALPHA LIFE 1

EVANG. DAVID CHINOMNSO OFURUM

“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” – Colossians 1:27 (KJV)

The word “Alpha”, as you must have already known, stands for the first letter of the Greek alphabet called alphabetos. In fact, the word “Alphabet” is derived from Alpha and Beta, the first two letters of the Greek alphabet. The Greek letter “Alpha” is equivalent to the English letter “A”. So Alpha rightly connotes the concept of being the first, prime, excellent, distinguished, atop, over, above, glorious, powerful, elite, and the list goes on. That is why in many examination score ratings, Alpha is used to denote the highest attainable grade.

When we talk about the Alpha Life therefore, we mean the glorious life, the powerful life, the distinguished life, the excellent life and so on. The Alpha Life refers to the good life devoid of the limitations and disadvantages common to man. Note however, that living a life devoid of limitations and disadvantages does not imply exemption from challenges. The man who lives an Alpha life faces common challenges but is not limited or disadvantaged by them. He triumphs over all challenges by the power of the Alpha Life in at work in him.

Man, by his own human abilities, cannot attain the Alpha Life. All human efforts at living the Alpha Life can only end in futility, for by strength shall no man prevail (1 Samuel 2:9). Every man who has ever lived has had the desire to live the Alpha Life and many have made and continue to make frantic efforts to attain this life – a life of bliss, joy, freedom, health, abundant supply of all needs and self-fulfillment. This kind of life cannot be bought with money, riches or fame, for these, though they are part of the manifestations of the Alpha Life, are not in themselves the origin, objective or end of the Alpha Life.

The Alpha Life is an all-encompassing life. It is complete in every sense and touches on every aspect of life. It affects the spiritual, emotional, mental, physical, economic, academic and social realms of life. It elevates an ordinary life to the Alpha dimension, thus making the Alpha Lifer larger than life itself. And is that not the ultimate desire of every human born of a woman: to be larger than life? Unfortunately, it is explicitly clear that “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble” – (Job 14:1) KJV.

… To be continued.
